I Remember Now by BlackTalonArts I Remember Now by BlackTalonArts
Had this sitting in my file folder that I had created when this outfit first came out. Wasn't sure I liked it because of the original render but after working with it a bit in Photoshop I was satisfied with the outcome.  Simple yes, but pretty because hey, she's elven.  What more do I need to say. heh  Oh and the fact I rendered this in 3Delight because once again I'm having driver issues that are not just Daz related.  So trying to figure all that out. pfft.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it.  Looks like with all the things I have going on that I won't get to do any traditional till after the first of the year. I've had some opportunities pop up that I can't dismiss.

Nonetheless I'm not sure I'll be around xmas eve or day so to all of you Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!  You've all been amazing and here's to hoping 2017 brings us good things in all ways.

As far as experiments go, it's safe to say this one was a success!

Yep, trying to get 3delight to look good is a really hard experiment for me.  Sadly the renders take as long as Iray. lol

The way 3Delight renders look, especially with the skin, is one of the main reasons I have
needed to be dragged kicking and screaming to start using Daz Studio. I know it is possible
because Mavrosh's renders are a perfect case in point when she was using 3Delight, so it
IS possible to get good results.... but there is just a lot of trial and error to find that magic
recipe. I have my Poser renders looking the way I want, especially the Subsurface on the skin,
and I am very reluctant to give that up...

Learning Daz Studio is just another thing in a long list of what I need to be learning but it is
slowly and surely creeping up the priority list. But even when I get a handle on Daz Studio, I
know Poser will always be my go-to program whenever possible. Vikki 4 might be incredibly
old but she is holding her own in my eyes with the options available, such as the Perfect V4
correction script (I lovelovelovelove that!) and of course Zbrush to buff out any nastiness!

I have no doubt in it's possibilities for rendering and they had so many addons that helped get it even better.  However Iray blows it away when it comes to rendering metals and such.  I just can't revert.   Listen, I had always been a Poser user and going to DS was a nightmare.  I installed and uninstalled it at least 3 times because I hated it so much.  But I was determined to learn it. haha  I'm apparently a glutton for punishment. lol  I'm glad I kept going at it.  While I still love Poser, I just can't go back to V4 and they have yet to release a competitive figure.  I bought the latest pro version (early adopter) and quit after I saw Paul and Pauline....absolutely horrible.  Now there's no going back for me.

However, it's just a tool (poser and Ds) and it's all about the user/artist....anything is possible. :)

These are my thoughts precisely!!! :D Poser and DS are both just a tool we utilise to achieve
our objective: making shiny pictures! It's why I'm going to straddle the divide between the
two programs and use whichever one I need to in order to get the job done, or which figure
will be better suited for my project. Having to relearn everything in DS and to stop the comparing
"But this is the way I do it in Poser" is daunting, and one of the main reasons why I'm dragging
my feet about getting started with it. I guess it comes down to the fact that my DS renders will
be the typical yep-you're-new-and-this-is-woefully-ugly newbie renders, compared to the instant
gratification of how everything comes together for me with my Poser renders. And after time away
from art, I just want to have a blow out and clear the cobwebs!

I know I'll get there eventually with DS. I have collected DS-only content when it was on sale, so I
have a huge library of stuff to play with, which always helps! I just need to settle on an idea I like,
maybe just a simple character portrait, light it and then figure out the rendering. Not having the DPI
option in the dimension settings that Poser has will make DS a bit of a trial and error thing of how
big I need to render an image out to work on my preferred canvas size. I'm not worried about how
long a render takes - the finished product is all I care about. Besides, while I'm rendering I go and
play video games while I wait! lol

I agree about Paul and Pauline. The are horrible looking figures. And it comes back to my previous
comment, about working with/buying new characters if their base appearance isn't aesthetically
pleasing. Paul, Pauline, as well as Dusk and Dawn... there's just something wrong with their faces
that I really don't like! They're different to the way Daz figures are jointed and zoned, so you don't
have that flexibility of using, say old V4 clothing or characters on the newer Genesis figures.

Yep...just tools.  I know you'll get there.  It's just taking the time and playing with it.  I mean we all start somewhere right?  It gets easier, believe me.  My biggest issue with DS is the fact it's so reliant on Nvidia cards and have an a pretty awesome machine in order to keep render times down.  I mean sheesh, it's just a hobby...not like I make a living with it. lol

The great thing about all my old content is that I CAN use it on genesis figures all the way up to G3 and the possibilities are limitless.  If I never bought another single item I would still have a crap ton to play with. :)  Anyway, I think you pretty much said or touched upon all things I think myself. :)

Lovely character portrait, simple but effective.  I like the almost washed-out color palette of the background and outfit, makes a nice contrast with her eyes and lips.  The hair/ear area looks convincing, that's always tough with elves.  When it's an elf character, you gotta show some ear, but not every hair prop works well with long ears.  I don't know how much of her hair is prop and how much of it is post in this image, but the hair around her ear just looks right.

Oh, and Happy New Year!

haha, you know me...can never leave things alone in post.  Thanks Theo!  As for the hair, besides a bit of highlighting throughout it not much else was done.  :)   My creativity has been waning of late, so throwing out something simple at times helps.  No pressure right?

Nothing wrong with simple pretty elves. Especially if you can render them with 3Delight and I can't see the difference with Iray due to high quality. ;)

Happy New Year.

Exquisite as always Mel! :+fav: I really like the character too... She has that distinguished noble and proud look, which leaves little doubt as to how she expects to be addressed and treated! :)
As far as rendering engine is concerned, had you not mentioned that it was done in 3Delight I would probably not have noticed!

She is a beauty, but i think every Elf has some kind of beauty, even when they are Dark Elfs or evil ones...I think that is the magic of Elves...
Your skills have made a "normal" looking render upgraded to a fantastic render, so very well done Mel  :D

She looks lovely, and i love the general fresh atmosphere.
In contrast with her expression, rather...snooty, i'd say. Well, i guess elves have this fame attached, isn't it? ;)

I hope by now the drivers issues are solved,
it's such a pain to go through. :(

Simple and beautiful! And I like  the way her hair flies.
Sometimes I can´t see the difference between 3Delight and Iray. I thought it was
Iray until I read your comment. This proves that it is possible to make beautiful and realistic enough images with 3Delight. Once again you did a great job!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too, Mel!
